Sustainability meets creativity in our latest hands-on workshop, where participants got the chance to have their plantable candle pot personalized! At Pass It On Studio, we believe in designing products that don’t just serve a single purpose—they are meant to be repurposed, reused, and ultimately, given a second life.
A Workshop Rooted in Circular Design
Before diving into the personalization process, we introduced participants to the concept of circular design—a design philosophy that extends the life of products by ensuring they serve multiple purposes. Our plantable candles embody this principle: once the candle has burned down, the biodegradable pot can be repurposed as a planter, giving it a new function instead of ending up as waste.
The Personalization Experience
To deepen the sense of ownership and encourage reuse, we set up a personalization station where participants could select their preferred designs, patterns, and colors. Our team of artists then hand-painted each pot based on the chosen designs, ensuring that every participant received a uniquely customized candle pot.
The result? A collection of beautifully personalized plantable candle pots, each tailored to reflect the preferences of its owner.
From Candle to Planter: Demonstrating the Transformation
Beyond personalization, we showcased how the plantable feature works. Once the candle wax is fully used, the pot can be filled with soil, planted with our seed-paper labels and after 3-4 weeks, the seedlings will begin to sprout. By making the pots personal and meaningful, we hope to encourage participants to keep and reuse them rather than discard them.
Why Personalization Matters
When people have a say in designing a product, they are more likely to cherish and reuse it. By offering a personalization experience, we reinforced the idea that sustainability can be fun, engaging, and deeply personal.
