Batik Ratten Clutch
Why we love this!
Description
Bemban is a plant originating from Kalimantan. The green stems are usually dried in the sun until they become shiny brown and then used as raw material for woven handicrafts by the Dayak Iban tribe, Sungai Utik, West Kalimantan.
Early bemban woven serves as a decoration for the traditional house of the Iban Dayak tribe. The motifs on the woven products are inspired by the plants and animals around them. A medium sized bemban woven mat can be made in about 1 month. The bemban tree thrives in a 9,480 ha customary forest that is preserved by the Dayak Iban people, Sungai Utik.
This pouch is made from woven bemban which is cut and sewn with the addition of batik and patchwork so that it is suitable for use in semi-formal or formal events.
